Copper is a metallic element that finds its application in several areas, right from domestic needs to industrial applications. As copper being a strategic metal, the Government has evolved a number of supportive measures to encourage production in this sector. HCL was assigned the task of exploration, mining, benefication, smelting, electro-refining and casting of finished copper into saleable products. HCL's operations in short include mining, crushing and grinding of ore to produce concentrate, which is then smelted and electro-refined to produce various copper based products. These operations involve highly mechanised mining technology, sophisticated metallurgy, chemical engineering and the whole gamut of management.
